Please see the update provided by Ivan Petkovic:
Following a 7 to 2 win against The London Blizzards the Essex-Kent Ice Bullets Junior Development team is now in first place in Ontario! The team, of mostly physically disabled athletes, came out strong in the first period scoring 3 goals by brothers Matt and Sean Alzner. Great goal tending by Trajan Petkovic kept the lead through the second period. London got on the board late in the second and attempted to rally in the 3rd, but the wide open end to end battles allowed for the Ice Bullets to score 4 more solidifying there win. The return of veteran player Genna Norton inspired the team for the win. The home game was played at Amherstburg’s United Community Credit Union Complex, which was built with consultation from the Essex-Kent Ice Bullets Sledge Hockey Club regarding accessibility. The Club now calls the complex their home. Canadian National Sledge Team players that are with the Club boast it is the best arena for sledge between here and Vancouver. The Ice Bullets Sledge Hockey Club is a parasport sledge hockey club with physically disabled athletes and able-bodied athletes. This is their 3rd season in the Ontario Sledge Hockey Association with a junior team, and each year they have improved. Coaching staff Ivan Petkovic, Ken Daigneau and Phil Sauve were happy with the win but say a lot of work still has to be done, as other teams such as Sarnia, Toronto and Buffalo are only 1 point behind and poise a threat to playoff hopes in March. The Ice Bullets next game is in Hamilton where they will play the Sledgehammers. Go Ice Bullets!
