Who’s ready to play outside? JMCC and Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare join forces to create accessible outdoor space for all ages and abilitiesDate Posted: Monday, May 29, 2017
Construction is underway in the side yard of the John McGivney Children’s Centre (JMCC) as Play McGivney, the Centre’s accessible playground begins to take shape. Play McGivney will provide an outdoor space for play and therapeutic opportunities for children and youth with special needs, their families, their friends and the community.
In partnership with JMCC and the construction of Play McGivney, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH) is building a fully accessible recreation and wellness centre. The fence between JMCC and HDGH has been removed and the two outdoor areas will be joined by paths and include picnic areas for families to interact and enjoy the outdoors together. Both projects were designed and are being led by Mark Jones of Playworld.
"This is different than any project I've ever designed and worked on and I'm so proud to be working with these two wonderful organizations to make it happen for our community,” says Jones. “The size, scope, accessibility and diversity of this outdoor space make it truly unique. Those of all ages and abilities will all be able to enjoy the outdoors together."
This unique outdoor space will be open to JMCC clients and families, HDGH patients and families and the entire Windsor/Essex community.
"JMCC is proud to be a partner with HDGH in delivering high quality services to the children, youth and adults of our community. This partnership has now extended to include planning for our unique outdoor space," says Elaine Whitmore, CEO, JMCC. "These synergies between our two organizations will serve to benefit generations of individuals and families in our community for many years to come."
JMCC has been fortunate to receive several grants as well as generous donations from our community. However, we are still seeking funds to meet our fundraising goal. If you wish to be a part of this amazing and unique project, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
