Give a 'Helping Hand': Be part of Play McGivneyDate Posted: Wednesday, April 12, 2017
The sun is shining, the weather is getting warmer and it’s time to play outside! At the John McGivney Children’s Centre (JMCC), we’re excited that our dream of an accessible outdoor playground is very close to becoming a reality! With the design phase complete and some generous financial contributions from our community, we are getting close to breaking ground and beginning the equipment installation for Play McGivney: our accessible playground and nature experience!
In a final push to reach our fundraising goal, we are thrilled to launch our Helping Hands campaign! For a donation of $1,000 or more you can become one our Helping Hands and be recognized with a brightly coloured hand print on the cement paths throughout the play space.
Located in the side yard of the Centre, Play McGivney will be a model of inclusive play and participation for children and youth with special needs, their families, their friends and the community. Our goal is to create a fully accessible outdoor playground and nature experience for play, leisure, recreation and therapeutic opportunities. This playground will not only be open to JMCC clients and their families, but it will be open to our entire community. The main focus of Play McGivney’s design, received in-kinds from Playworld, is inclusivity and it is designed in a way that those of all abilities will truly be able to enjoy their experience together.
By giving a Helping Hand, you will be a part of creating a space where children and youth with special needs, their families, their friends and our community will be will be able to socialize, interact and play together in a fully accessible and inclusive outdoor environment that celebrates the diversity of our community and promotes skill development for those of all abilities.
