JMCC Preschool Thanks Lowe’s for Being Our Heroes!Thursday, December 1, 2011
For the entire week of Oct. 24, 2011 Lowe’s had a team of volunteers from their Windsor store on site to build the preschool children a multi-level sand box that is accessible for all. This sand box is easy to wheel into if you are in a wheelchair, easy to walk into if you are in a walker, easy to stand at and easy to crawl into.
Once a year Lowe’s chooses one community based project to create; offering the materials, labour and time as a donation to the project and the agency that is receiving it. This year we were extremely fortunate to be the recipients of this program they refer to as their Heroes Program. Mike and his team worked very closely with our design team of teachers, occupational and physiotherapists and facility experts to create a unique, one-of-a-kind design that would best suit the needs of our population of children. Mike’s attention to detail created a structure that looks like it has been in our courtyard forever.
Our children watched anxiously from the classroom windows as the project was being built and then when it was finally time to let the children try it out they squealed with excitement as they made their way into the sand. We would like to thank our Lowe’s Heroes for creating a venue that allows us to provide the experience of sand play to every child which is a key element for children’s play and development, while encouraging and allowing for interaction for the children as they explore and build in the sand.
