Ms. Nancy Gignac, Board Member, was pleased to recognize Dr. Joseph Zakaria as the recipient of the 2016 Friend of the Centre Award at our Annual General Meeting on June 14, 2016.
Dr. Joseph Zakaria has been an important member of our transition team since 2011. He has generously donated his time by providing monthly clinics at the Centre for transitioning youths and provides assistance to families by connecting them with adult services for their children. His input and referral process assists families navigating the transition from paediatric to adult services and drastically reduces the stress our families feel. His calm demeanour and knowledge has ensured that our client’s medical needs are transitioned smoothly without families needing to feel uncertain about the future. Our families appreciate knowing that their children will continue to be cared for, which is a great relief for them. As one of our valued advocates, Dr. Zakaria has demonstrated his deep and personal commitment to the John McGivney Children’s’ Centre and the work we all do. Thank you Dr. Zakaria for your ongoing dedication to our youth and their families!
Ron Gudel, Magician Extraordinaire - Friend of the Centre

Ms. Veronica Friesen, Board Member, was pleased to present the Friend of the Centre Award to Ron Gudel, Magician, at our June 14, 2016 Annual General Meeting. Ron has been bringing smiles and wonder to our children and staff for several years through his extraordinary gift of magic and his countless hours of performing at special events such as our Super Hero Fun Day and our teen group events. He brings smiles, laughter and inspiration not only to the children at JMCC, but to countless other children within our community as well as in other communities, such as London, Sudbury, and Detroit, to name just a few. On his day off from work, you can find Ron on the pediatric floor of Windsor Regional Hospital interacting with, and performing for the children who are hospitalized. It has been said that laughter provides more than just a distraction for the children; that they end up coping and healing much faster than they normally would have. We are truly honoured to recognize Ron Gudel with our 2016 Friend of the Centre Award!
